Been off writing a Business Plan for a location based entertainment project, 'we' are working on. Once, I get out of my way, one sure learns allot, in these exercises.
Lots of 'stuff' gone by, in the interlude. When I checked in with Google Reader, I had 745 feeds to read. Let that reading go a day, and the river of news overflows.
A couple of nuggets surfaced, yesterday. Steve Rubel had this, on a blogging journalist, covering the Yankees training camp. Sent the link to my son in-law. No help for him, when it comes to the Yanks.
Mathew Ingram, at the Globe and Mail has a policy wiki going, on Canada's role in Afghanistan. A wiki is a collection of web pages designed to enable anyone, who accesses it to contribute or modify content. Lots of thought provoking reading, there. Plus, an opportunity to be heard by contributing to the discussion.
There's lots of that type of engagement happening in the US government policy, now. Lord knows, it's needed, there and here, oops! Why is it always easier to find US 'stuff'' ?
These digital tools are enabling. Well, they can, if journalists, publishing companies, your company, learn how to use them, actually practice some journalism, and develop new approaches to engaging audiences and customers.
Locally, I follow Mack Male. By traditional standards, he would not be considered a journalist. However, in his niche, leading edge technology application in Edmonton, he's an informed well connected go to source. Look for Edmonton Transit to announced Google Transit Edmonton, tomorrow. That's enabling!
Can't remember, when I read a meaningful, personally applicable, local ,technology piece, in the Journal, or the Sun. Can You? Better, where are the local newspapers, when it comes to developing meaningful local applications, services, and platforms?
